5.0 out of 5 stars The experiential wisdom of this book helps both literacy students and teachers thrive!
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe first edition of this book was my introduction to the Sisters - 2 passionate and savvy classroom teachers. How they promote reading independence, writing skills, and love of reading while matching the (occasionally ridiculous) demands of research based literacy instruction is worth the time of every reading and writing teacher.
The second edition goes way beyond the first book in practical support for teachers - especially elementary and middle school age. I have the opportunity to work one-to-one with students who are struggling with reading and writing in school through a not-for-profit organization which emphasizes research-based teaching strategies. The Daily Cafe second edition does that and more. Through its clear goals and how-to descriptions, through all the resources they make available via their classroom experience and the refiner’s fire of working with students of wide-ranging capabilities, they have brought together both research based instruction, and the clarity of knowing kids and how they can learn well when we find and practice what works for them.
I challenge any teacher to compare Daily Cafe, second edition with any manual or text from your teachers’ education classes and see which one inspires you with practical and even revolutionary information for teaching reading and writing with clarity, compassionate awareness and best practices. It’s that good. I heartily encourage taking a look to see how it can support all frontline people in a learning community - teachers, students, and parents. The support and resources they have developed are extensive.
