I heard of this book from a free online radar course professor hosted by the University of New Hampshire and taught by Dr. Robert O'Donnell. I skimmed a couple of chapters and found the mathematics to be very clear as well as the humor demonstrated by Dr. Griffiths. Later on, I took a upper classmen undergraduate course in EM and used this book as a supplement; I basically, read this book instead of the one chosen by my professor. I am very happy to have purchased this book and thank Dr. Griffiths for writing such a majestic piece of literature.
I highly recommend this book to all EM enthusiasts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book has both quality and quantity.
Verified PurchaseThis is a book authored by David J. Griffiths, so there are no words for me to describe this magnificent book. As we know, the books authored by foreign authors are sold at affordable rates in India, however it kills the quality in doing that. For instance, this same book published by Pearson at a similar price is available, however I bought the one published by Prentice Hall India. I have had experience with Pearson-published books in the past and that experience was not that well. Pearson intentionally removes a bit of material from the original material such the appendices and republishes it on absolutely cheap paper like it's a newspaper that won't last even a couple of years! When the same book is available from a different publisher such as Oxford Univ. Press, or Cambridge Univ. Press, or Prentice Hall, I try my best to avoid Pearson and Willey books altogether. Even if I have to pay a bit higher for the same book, I'm absolutely ready to pay more for quality. I hate the policy of selling the best quality in the developed countries while a cheap material in India. This situation must change asap!

5.0 out of 5 stars Introductory at a 2nd of 4 year university course level.
Format: HardcoverVerified Purchase2e March 1989 pp.xii+532=544 hardback Prentice Hall. ISBN 0-13-481367-7
This edition does not have the defects of the Pearson editions.
The 2nd edition adds Dirac Delta, Helmholtz theorem and wave guides.
This book covers electromagnetism of the vacuum and isotropic matter including dielectrics, conductors & plasma.
It relies on Vector Analysis typically taught at a 2 of a 4 year course. This is covered in chapter 1. Other chapters cover Electrostatics, Coulomb, Gauss & Laplace.
Ch. 3 Potentials.
Ch.4 Dielectrics.
Ch.5&6 Magnetostatics. Lorentz, Biot-Savart.
Ch.7 Electrodynamics & gauges. Faraday and Maxwell.
Ch.8 EM waves
Ch.9 EM radiation
Ch.10 Relativity. Tensors.
This book covers more than my undergraduate physics courses so filled in the gaps in my knowledge.
See the review by Tiffany Walmsley for my comment listing most of the editions some of which have printing defects.
