I just use it as a reference. For that, it’s very good.

Brilliant and Comprehensive in grammatical detail and as guide to customary uses.

A trustworthy guide to style appropriate to the English-speaking world. Do not expect guidance regarding how to create terms like the long-em/longer dash - or regarding any item not available directly from the average keyboard.

Normally it would get higher but it need a revision. Still a good book to read to get good and bad examples.

Wonderful book. I'd recommend it to anyone in the writing business. I'm an engineer and work doing reports. Usually colleagues don't know much about formatting or use of capitals, like capitalising north, south, east and west. Everyone's got their own ideas and think everything is debatable. This book is the end to countless hours of discussions on stuff like whether or not to hyphen south-west. I can't be happier with this book. It will save me lots of times and strife. Thanks.

Stops arguments

The Australian Style Manual is a great guide to ensure consistency in our corporate writing.
It stops the argument about : How many spaces after a full-stop; Should we use "organisation" or "organization"; the correct formatting of bullet points.
Australians companies should consider using it.

Heavy. No Kidding!

I'm also a US-based writer and editor, and I use this when editing for the two Australian magazines I proof and copy edit. This is a useful book, extremely detailed, and handy to designate differences between US and Australian capitalization, punctuation and grammar rules, and taking the normal style guide a step further into layouts and use of images.
One thing: the entire book is printed on super-heavy, glossy paper, which frequently gives a false notion of how long it is and where the reader is. Looking for page 168, I kept thinking I was close only to discover I hadn't even hit page 100 yet.

Very helpful

I bought this when I edited several books for Australian authors (I'm US-based). I wasn't sure if there was anything different between my usual Chicago Manual of Style and Australian style. Actually, there isn't much difference, except for metric style measurements and some capitalization issues. A great reference book to have!

I needed a style manual for American use. I received one for New Zealand use. It was of no value to me. It was shipped by a charitable organization, so I tossed it and ate the $40.
