Product description
Review
"This readable, concise yet solid book stands in stark contrast to other pearl books or survival guides for surgical clerks. Students can read this book and learn the basics, attaining a fundamental level of knowledge on which they can build. As it is a British book, U.K. spelling is used throughout, but this should not deter U.S. readers. The new edition is amply justified and should be welcomed by the next generation of students." (Doody's, 5 August 2011)

Needed the book as its a prerequisite for my rotation, and it's clear, presenting the essentials in a way that is easy for medical students to absorb and digest.

Excellent book - pitched at the perfect level for 4th/5th year medical students studying for finals, or even for lower years who are studying for systems exams (e.g. Aberdeen, Dundee, etc). Easy to sit down and read whole chapters, and the information is easier to digest than the barrage of facts thrown at you by the Oxford Handbook. It's perhaps not as comprehensive as Davidson's/Kumar & Clark and other surgical texts, but this book will cover the vast majority of what you need to know about surgical conditions at an undergraduate level.

GOOD BOOK, BUT ....

THIS IS A GOOD BOOK, HOWEVER, IT'S VERY SIMPLE, AND NOT COVER THE MAIN TOPICS OF SURGERY THOROUGHLY. THE INFORMATION IS TOO SHORT, IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, NOT ENOUGH FOR A MEDICAL STUDENT.

Great Book for General Surgery Rotation
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 February 2014Verified Purchase
I have quite a few books from this series now; they're perfect for rotations (just for looking up the generic stuff you'd need to know while sat in clinic). It covers the majority of the topics you'd see on a rotation in relative detail & is easy to understand. Great for medical students!
