ELEMENTARY STATISTICS: A BRIEF VERSION is for introductory statistics courses with a basic algebra prerequisite. The book is non-theoretical, explaining concepts intuitively and teaching problem solving through worked examples and step-by-step instructions. In recent editions, Al Bluman has placed more emphasis on conceptual understanding and understanding results, along with increased focus on Excel, MINITAB, and the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus graphing calculators; computing technologies commonly used in such courses. The 6th edition of Bluman, Elementary Statistics: A Brief Version provides a significant leap forward in terms of online course management with McGraw-Hill's homework platform, Connect Statistics -- Hosted by ALEKS. Statistic instructors served as digital contributors to choose the problems that will be available, authoring each algorithm and providing stepped out solutions that go into great detail and are focused on areas where students commonly make mistakes. From there, the ALEKS Corporation reviewed each algorithm to ensure accuracy. The result is an online homework platform that provides superior content and feedback, allowing students to effectively learn the material being taught.

Should be used for all intro Stats classes
Reviewed in the United States on 26 August 2016Verified Purchase
This book was so nice to use for my Stats class - the example problems really helped and I liked how they broke up the information, and yes, had pictures. This made it easy on the eyes and I didn't feel like I was just looking at a wall of text when I opened my book. I really wish they made more like this so my other math classes used their books! I even found myself going back to the notes I wrote from this book to help me work on problems for a Biostatistics class.

Statsssssssss

I love math so this book was a love for me! The has step by step info for each individual problem so you can better understand the concepts. It's very detailed since STATS is a very detailed subject. I bought it used and was pleased to see the CDS and access code in the book even though our teacher didn't require them. Overall a great book with good practice problems.

Book is excellent - Kindle rental not so much
Reviewed in the United States on 20 April 2013Verified Purchase
Book is excellent - Kindle software on PC not so much. This book was required for a statistics course and has been critical for success in the class. I prefer my textbooks in electronic format and so the rental choice was perfect because it was far less than buying and it is electronic.
The problem is not with the text but with the Kindle software on the PC. It crashes constantly. I can do a quick search or page through a few pages and down it goes. It's also not available for the Kindle Cloud (I should have looked for this) but I'm pretty new to Kindles and textbooks. Please be aware of this limitation before you commit to this purchase. I don't know for sure but suspect that the rental has something to do with some of the limitations but the PC Kindle reader is very unstable.
Even with these problems, I would still get the electronic version.

Does NOT contain the access code
Reviewed in the United States on 24 August 2013Verified Purchase
I will give this three stars because I have to have this book for a class I added late, so I have no opinion on whether it's a great stats book. But, stupid me, I was thinking "Formula card" meant "Access code" (to MathConnect). I should have read more carefully and realized what a "formula card" is, for a statistics book, but it's slightly misleading. I ordered this book with expedited shipping so that I could access MathConnect right away, which is the only reason I paid extra for the shipping. I could have gotten by without the book itself right away, even though both are required for this course. So now, I am STILL paying the $85 to get the access code, PLUS the $107 for the book with expedited shipping. - Having said all that, I am so happy with Amazon for how the textbook thing is handled in general - though, like other readers, it seems that the ISBN code on the books I buy are NEVER the same ones as the books they want to buy back for good prices, even though it always looks like the exact same books. But I can usually pay a little or a LOT less than my campus bookstore, and don't have to wait in long lines, and have the convenience of books delivered right to me as soon as I need them (and return things I don't need quickly and easily). I'm sure I could return this book and buy a used one if I wanted to go to the trouble and wait awhile, but I will just keep it. It's worth the minor annoyances to have the Amazon services, but JUST DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE - Formula card is NOT Access Code!
