Nursing is the heart of health care, regardless of the setting in which it is provided. My passion is helping students to prepare for their nursing careers. Why? Because each day nurses touch the lives of human beings in times of need. The Pearson Education Reviews and Rationales Series is a result of this passion. My overarching aim with this series is to provide current, evidence-based and quality study aids, to help students feed their own passion - becoming caring and competent nurses!

I was born and raised in western Massachusetts, and still reside there. I have taught in diploma, AD, and BS nursing programs, and am currently at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I began teaching NCLEX-RN review courses in the early 1990s, and for the past decade or so have also taught NCLEX-PN courses. My research interests relate to nurse clinical competence, nurse decision-making, and patient safety. I am a member of the American Nurses Association, ANA Massachusetts, the Eastern Nursing Research Society, National League for Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau International (nursing honor society). When I am not pursuing my teaching and scholarship interests, I enjoy traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.

I was on the brink of failing my MedSurge course and thankfully found this God given gift. First of all, DO NOT merely depend on this source and call it quits. I went into my 3rd exam with a 64% average (from prior 2 exams) and ACED my 3rd exam with the help of this book. I really don't know what did it but this definitely played an important role. The concise, yet detailed, text helped me understand the BIGGER picture by laying out the necessary info. I incorporated my lecture notes (ppts) with the help of this book, and then read my actual textbook after having a good idea of the patho, causes, medical management, nursing care, etc. When I read the chapters in my assigned textbook (from school) everything started just seemed to click. I also made flashcards on each topic and shuffled them around after I learned a new chapter. This method REALLY helped me for the exam as our test is always in a random order, not in the order we were taught chapter by chapter. So when I took the test, I was already used to having all the topics jumbled around in my head and I was able to file back into my memory back and remember the key points back to this book. It was awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I wish I bought this earlier when I had patho so it could prep me for this ridiculous course! G'LUCK MY FELLOW NURSES & HAPPY STUDYING! =)

~ps I also found the 5th edition of the Saunders NCLEX review book to be very helpful to also add onto my comprehensive notes and for additional test questions for review.

I recieved this book just in time to study for my hematologic disorders test and it is fabulous! Your crazy if you don't buy it!! It has a pre-test, reading, a post-test, a cd with additional questions, and a neat reference or nurses notes as they call it which comes in handy during clinicals! :) Also, it has these ! which identifies concepts likely tested on the NCLEX exam. You can also get downloads of the book content through an amazon affiliate with this book but it requires a membership (right now, first three months is $7.49 a month and $14.95 thereafter). This is all I know about it. I don't know if you can only download one book or multiples for that price. But the book is wonderful! Oh, and it has case studies and practice to pass questions (ex. a cliet undergoes a bone marrow biopsy. what nursing interventions would you implement? or what are the key differences in nursing management of a client who had a hemorrhagic stroke versus an ischemic stroke?) that are thrown through out the subjects in addition to the questions. I love this book!

Let's be honest, you never have time to read everything in nursing school and then have the time to master the concepts as well. This book lets you do just that. It skims the fat outta your text book and gives you the need to know from diagnostics to implementation. I won't lie, it doesn't have EVERY disease you have to know for medsurg, however it'll give you time to read up on the couple that are missing so make sure you keep your textbook as a reference. Theres also plenty of room for notes so thats a plus along with the NCLEX review questions that come in handy before a test. I have all the books in the series (the pertinent ones), and I'll be making sure to keep them for when my exit hesi and NCLEX come up. These books are what have allowed me to pass all those darn HESIs, hahaha!

This series of books has helped me survive nursing school. I rarely, if ever, use the recommended text for the class, instead opting for these. All the information you need for an exam is in this book sorted by topic. The outlines point out important topics that could be on NCLEX. These books include everything the textbook has, but without the fluff. The outlines are easy to read and I love the practice questions at the beginning and end of the chapters to test your knowledge. There are also full rationales to all the answers. If you get one extra book for your class, make it this one.
