This is a comprehensive and accessible text by the excellent Kathleen Sluka for manual therapists who wish to update their information of pain mechanisms and management. The prose is easy to understand and provides useful clinical explanations, which can be lacking in other texts. If you need a more introductory level text (for pain mechanisms), then this is the one for you. It also provides a thorough and updated list of references and recommends further reading in the more classical pain texts (Bonica's or Melzack & Walls which can be a bit intimidating).
The focus on manual therapy specific applications makes it unique and incredibly helpful. I have used this as a set text in pain education courses too.

A Great Resource for Current PT’s and DPT Students
Reviewed in the United States on 10 February 2019Verified Purchase
I am a physical therapist working at a multi-disciplinary pain management clinic. This book has been very informative and useful for my daily practice. I often use the research references when discussing PT treatments with the docs and other clinicians. Since pain is the #1 reason patients are referred to PT, I recommend this book as a valuable resource for PTs in virtually any setting.

Poor

I was under the impression that I was buying this book brand new for $150. When I received it the book was beat up, bent out of shape, and torn. It also had the rental sticker on it, in fact it had multiple rental stickers on it.
