Dalton, Elias, and Wandersman have answered the challenge of transforming an abstract, theoretical topic into a lively and understandable subject for students. Through concrete examples and consistent pedagogy, this text helps students understand the concepts and provides opportunities for students to apply the concepts. After introducing community psychology and its history, the authors describe methods of community research and discuss how to understand communities from the perspectives of sense of community, coping, and social support. The focus then shifts to community programs and actions: preventing problem behavior and promoting social competence, citizen participation, organizing for community and social change, and program evaluation and development.

Book for class

5$ book best investment ever! Needed this for my community psych class, it has the same material as the 3rd edition the only difference is in the way the chapters are ordered. So I saved over $100+ buying this. This book has the exact same content as the 3rd edition the only difference is the way the chapters are ordered in the third edition, you just need to do a bit of searching in this book to find the content.

Delivery was quicker than expected and book came just as it was described. I am satisfied :). The book itself however, is quite boring. The class I took associated with the book was much better.

I purchased this book as a textbook for my Community Multicultural School Psychology Doctoral level course. It includes all of the basic tenements and theories of general community and multicultural psychology. The book reads easily and lends the practicing psychologist ideas to many areas of research. Great reference!
