I already owned the 2010 3rd edition of this book, but decided my French grammar needed updating and more practice, so bought this slightly cheaper two-book offer. The contents are laid out and explained clearly, and the exercises in the workbook are relevant and fit for purpose, with a key at the end of the workbook. It is intended only for those with a good working understanding of grammar in general and French and English grammar in particular - certainly post A-level. I have found it useful, but in actual use they drive me crazy - they are intended (surely?) to be used side-by-side, but each refuses to lie open on the desk while I consult/use the other, so place-markers and pointless constant time-consuming re-finding of one's place are essential. There are all sorts of binding solutions to this not insignificant problem: calligraphy books, for example, have wiro-binding within hard outer ('turtle-back'?) covers. And don't get me started on Routledge's ludicrous pricing policy for hard-back versions of its books, which, while being more user-friendly and having greater longevity, are clearly not intended for us hoi polloi lowly students. Close to essential, but the format needs looking at.
