About the author

(www.glutenfree.guru and www.dannakorn.com) ...
Known as “The Gluten-Free Guru,” Danna Van Noy (formerly Korn) is an author, motivational speaker, and renowned expert on the gluten-free diet and medical conditions that benefit. She is the author of seven bestselling books on the subject of the gluten-free lifestyle, including five in the prestigious “For Dummies” series. “For Dummies” authors are always the gurus in their field, and are asked to author the books -- not the other way around.
Respected as one of the leading authorities on the gluten-free diet and the medical conditions that benefit from it, she has been featured in People Magazine, on ABC’s “20-20,” and dozens of other national media outlets.
Danna’s passion for helping people live (and love!) a gluten-free lifestyle was born from a desperate need to help her own son. In 1991, her son was diagnosed with celiac disease, a genetic intolerance to gluten. Doctors told her that her son, like others with celiac disease, would “suffer” a life of deprivation and restrictions, and they gave her no direction for following a gluten-free diet, which was the key to his improved health. Danna wasn’t about to accept that sentence, nor would she flounder like many others attempting a gluten-free diet did. Furthermore, she was committed to helping others who could benefit from her knowledge. She was a mom on a mission to help millions.
Without the benefit of the internet (hadn't been invented yet), and ignoring the widespread warnings that no one would ever publish a book on the subject, Danna conducted extensive medical research with the nation’s foremost experts, and then wrote her first book -- she sent four proposals to publishers. She received four acceptances.
Her work in the gluten-free community has had profound effects, resulting in availability of products that would never have made it to store shelves, and a skyrocketing awareness of the benefits of a gluten-free diet.
Several bestselling books and thousands of speaking engagements later, Danna has earned the moniker of “Gluten-Free Guru” -- and in the process has helped improve the lives of millions by helping them adopt healthier lifestyles. She has partnered with General Mills and their gluten-free initiative, and was a consultant for Prometheus Laboratories and dozens of other gluten-free products. In 1991 she founded the world’s largest support group of its type, R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Celiac Kids), which has more than 140 chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Danna’s passion for wellness extends far beyond gluten-free living. She co-founded and was CEO of Sonic Boom Wellness, an innovative digital corporate wellness company with more than 100 well-known clients throughout the world. Sonic Boom was acquired by Premise Health in 2021. She and her husband, Bryan, live in Park City, UT where they encounter moose up-close-and--personal almost every day of their lives (not to mention embarking upon action sports and amazing outdoor activities!).

This guide is both comprehensive and a God-send to those who aren't just adopting a lifestyle choice, but who's lives are changed forever with a diagnosis of coeliac disease. The authors give an authoritative account of what to do and how to manage a gluten-free lifestyle post-diagnosis. Also they spell out what the medical effects are if gluten is ingested, and they give great case histories that allow a sufferer to understand that they are not alone and that it is a blessing in disguise to know what's exactly is wrong with your bodily system so it can be managed and addressed. Of course there are those who adopt a gluten-free lifestyle by choice and this book affords plenty of good down to earth advice for this group too - but it is an essential well-written, well-indexed, well-researched guide for those who have to deal with a life forever changed by being informed that they have joined the ranks of the one in a hundred of us who simply cannot deal with gluten in our diet - to the extent that it can ruin one's health and cause a wide range of symptoms and other serious medical conditions.
Although "Living Gluten-Free for Dummies" offers a range of gluten-free recipes, this is not where it's strength lies. There are other much better cook-books out there that provide more imaginative and tastier recipes - but this in no way takes away from the merits of this excellent, comprehensive and good value guide.

When I read through the book as a non-sufferer it did explain pretty clearly what causes the disorder & the various things available on the specialist diet that then follows diagnosis.
My friend did say he found parts of it a little patronising almost but alot of that may've been due to all the prior info he's had from doctors since a stint in hospital.
I think this book is ideal for anyone trying to get their head around things & those of us who don't have the disorder but want to understand it & support those who do. :)

my first bread was yummy straight out the oven, but turned into a foundation stone next day and cause facial assault with the taste.
this pre owned book was like new when arrived, bought for pence!!! from a amazon seller, has explained where I went wrong, and how to make bread the gluten free way. Plus gave certain tips on what not to do, My next gluten free loaf was wonderful,
I am reading through and digesting all info.
already adapted some of my recipes to be gluten free using the info
it is a thick book, and some info is repeated.
But for the out lay am rather pleased..
