Engineering Mathematics is the unparalleled undergraduate textbook for students of electrical, electronic, communications and systems engineering. Tried and tested over many years, this widely used textbook is now in its 5th edition, having been fully updated and revised. This new edition includes an even greater emphasis on the application of mathematics within a range of engineering contexts. It features detailed explanation of why a technique is important to engineers. In addition, it provides essential guidance in how to use mathematics to solve engineering problems. This approach ensures a deep and practical understanding of the role of mathematics in modern engineering.

Features

Two disciplines, one book: Integrates engineering and mathematics through an applications focused treatment.

· Provides motivation for study: Provides detailed explanation of why a technique is important to engineers.

· Clear and comprehensive coverage: Detailed guidance on how to use each mathematical technique.

· Builds from foundation to advanced techniques: Carefully develops the full range of mathematical techniques most appropriate to students of electrical, electronic, systems and communications engineering.

· Extensive revision to ensure up to date coverage: Includes updated treatment of integral transform methods, including the Laplace, z and Fourier transforms.

· Links theory and practice: Numerous examples to illustrate mathematical theory and its application to engineering.

· Exercises throughout the book enable students to test their understanding. Answers provided in the book.

New to this edition

Thorough content update, including new material on Bessel’s equation and Bessel functions.

Significantly expanded ‘Engineering Application’ feature shows students how mathematics is used in different real-world engineering contexts.

New ‘Technical Computing Exercises’ provide guidance and support in the use of MATLAB.

Very comprehensive (over 1000 pages), beautifully printed summary of engineering level mathematics. Content choice covers most topics for engineering (including electrical) and applied science. Print contrast, paper type and colouring (mono) is very effective in readability. Font size adequate (with reading glasses for seniors). Next size up would be better however the book length and page thickness would be compromised so a good balance of these competing factors. My only gripes are with publisher Pearson pricing. For a $100 book this should have been hard cover, making it a perfect reference and 5 stars in my assessment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best mathematics book I ever read and I have read several along the years.

I’m a medium age engineer, but that has a large collection of good books, I read and study a lot of technical books for work and for pleasure. I can say without any reservation that this book is the best mathematical book that I ever encountered, and I have studied it from the first to the last page.
In college when I studied calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, numerical analysis and optimization I studied from good books like

Calculus, Vol. 1: One-Variable Calculus, with an Introduction to Linear Algebra
by Tom M. Apostol

and

Calculus, Vol. 2: Multi-Variable Calculus and Linear Algebra with Applications to Differential Equations and Probability
by Tom M. Apostol

Those books are very good even for a Mathematics degree level but they are very dry.

And along the years I have read for pleasure good books on calculus like Calculus
by Michael Spivak and perls like Calculus Made Easy by Thompson and Gardner, but this book the Engineering Mathematics by Prof Anthony Croft is the best book by all measures, it’s really alive, it’s a 1024 page books that you read like a novel, it’s that good!
It covers all the mathematics that you need for a heavy mathematics course like Electrical Engineering Masters degree, it’s all there waiting for you to study from it.
I like it so much that that I own 2 copies, one for me and one for my daughter waiting for the next several years that she will have the age to go to college, this book is that good! Because I know that math along with physics are the fundamentals building blocks of everything in science, in engineering and in research.
And it break my heart to see that this book has only two reviews, how can this pearl have so little reviews, it deserves to be on the tops of amazon search for college mathematics and calculus books.

Best regards,
João Nuno Carvalho
