"...it is a very convientient and comprehensive textbook for students...I recommend this book for supply chain managers" (Supply Management, January 8th 2009)

From the Back Cover

Pour yourself a cup of coffee... ...and ponder for a moment to intricate operations and supply chains that from verdant fields of coffee bean plants to the steaming hot cup in your hands. Someone has to manage this process, and this text will show you how it′s done! The Sixth Edition unveils all the quantitative and qualitative aspects of operations and supply chain management that anyone involved in this process know. It features an ideal balance of managerial issues and quantitative techniques with an emphasis on supply chain management. The authors present the concepts clearly and logically, never losing sight of how operations management relates to the real world of business. Russell and Taylor also recognize that many students struggle with the quantitative material in their Operations Management course. That′s why the Sixth Edition offers an extensive collection of exercises and solved problems along with interactive problem–solving support. Here′s what′s new in the Sixth Edition: New organization and content highlight supply chain management. The Supply Chain chapter has been divided into two chapters with more detailed content on supply chain strategy and design as well as global sourcing and logistics. In addition, a new chapter fully covers service design. All chapter–opening cases and in–text example boxes have been revised or replaced to more readily illustrate global, supply chain, and service issues. Examples include the success of supply chain design at Toyota and Honda, and supply chain management at Royal Caribbean. Each chapter begins with an example from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters to demonstrate how one company participates in all aspects of OM and SCM. Each chapter has been edited for conciseness, currency, and integration of supply chain coverage. The OM Tools Excel add–in has been redesigned to provide students with a robust tool for effective problem solving. At the instructor′s discretion, this text is also available with WileyPLUS. WileyPLUS is a one–shop for students and instructors to access videos, tutorials, simulations, exercises, cases, and more. It links problems from the book to relevant sections in an online version of the text, while providing opportunities for more practice.

This text is an excellent introduction to the theories of operation management. Each chapter presents the overview and description for different sections of operations management but also provide an example of a current company that uses the techniques. By juxtaposing the theory with the application the author clearly presents the information is in comprehensive fashion that allows the reader to absorb the details. It should be stressed that every student working for any corporation will be using some of the techniques in this book. Each example is illustrated with color pictures, charts, diagrams, etc to fully flush out the subject matter. I fully recommend any student that wants to get a breath of the subject to pick up this book and begin reading.

Very well-written book. Used for my MBA course of Operations. Good layout, informational, and formulas that you need. I love books like this where its complex and heavy formulae are broken down into language that businessmen can understand. As an engineer with an MBA, I sincerely appreciate books like this. Definitely recommend. However, if you're trying to learn the subject on your own, it may be a little tricky, as some of the information does get a bit intense. Go to class for this subject. Book isn't enough to pass the course on. Still love it and giving it 5 stars, as I will refer to it for Forecasting and Modeling in my current career path.

My professor was also one of the co-authors (Russell) of this book. Its very easy to read and understand and presents advanced concepts like six sigma and PMP-related practices. This book was one edition out of date and only cost me like $8 instead of the new one for $150 and contained all the detail I needed to get an A in the class. There is another edition coming out soon.
The professor was awesome, as is her writing style.
