About the author
Suzann K. Campbell, PT, PhD, FAPTA, holds the BS in Physical Therapy and a PhD in Neurophysiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is Professor Emerita and Director of Mentoring Programs in Clinical/Translational Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She is senior editor of Physical Therapy for Children and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Campbell’s research with OT and PT colleagues on assessment of infants born at high risk for movement disorders resulted in publication of the Test of Infant Motor Performance (TIMP), a functional motor scale for newborns which was normed on 990 U.S. infants. Recent research has demonstrated the value of the TIMP for educating parents of premature babies about their infant’s motor development.
Dr. Campbell’s work has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and numerous awards from the American Physical Therapy Association, including the Mary McMillan Lecture Award, the Marion Williams Award for Research, and the Section on Pediatrics Research Award. Following her retirement as Head of the Department of Physical Therapy at UIC, Dr. Campbell returned to clinical practice serving families and infants in home-based physical therapy through Child and Family Connections, Illinois’ early intervention program.
