Martyn Denscombe is Emeritus Professor at De Montfort University, where he was previously Professor of Social Research in the Faculty of Business and Law. He has a research background in the fields of sociology, education, and business studies and has published widely on research methods in the social sciences. These publications include the widely-acclaimed 'Good Research Guide', now in its seventh edition, along with 'Research Proposals' and 'Ground Rules for Social Research' (both in their second editions). His books also include a ground-breaking analysis of the work of school teachers ('Classroom Control')

His research has focused on the areas of risk perceptions and health-related behaviour, primarily in relation to substance misuse by young people, and he has specialised in the use of interviews and internet surveys within mixed methods approaches to small-scale projects.

Martyn lives in Leicester, England. He is married and has two grown-up children. In his spare time he has a passion for guitars, and he and his wife, Viv, are avid supporters of their local football club, Leicester City.

The book is very good for those undertaking social research. It sets the record straight for both begginers and those who are already in the research practice.
