It arrived in great condition considering it is second hand. I'm studying to be an Actuarial Analyst so I needed lots of examples and solved problems. The topics covered are an essential part of my course. I'm very pleased with it.

I am a math puzzle person. I own most all of the Shaum's Kindle editions. They are a nice break from reading epic fantasies and I can view them well on all my reading devices, including the Kindle Android phone app, my Chromebook, my Fire and the Paperwhite. You cannot do the videos on the Paperwhite.

As I needed to brush up on statistics for my job, I went to a few book stores looking for something on the mater. Other books I found cover some of the topics in this book but not all of them, and some of the omissions in those books were exactly what I was looking to understand, so I had to break down and get good old reliable (I used this book in college). When you figure that this book costs the same as most other books, and has more content, the choice is a no-brainer. you get great value for money here.

The definition of concepts is very concise, borderline bare-bones at times, and in many cases full understanding comes only when you attack the solved problems; learning by doing and all that jazz. For some concepts I was forced to refer to Wikipedia to find explicit applications of those concepts, so it's not the end-all be-all of statistics, but it really does serve you well if you need to learn an outline of the subject, as the title of the book itself says.

New to me is the integration of MINITAB and Excel functions into the book so that you can learn how to apply what you learn into statistical software and learn to understand their output instead of entering numbers into formulas and spending too much time with a calculator and equations, but this is again minimalist since this isn't a guide to that software.

I gave it four stars because it lacks any practical applications or explanations of certain concepts, however this is still an absolutely solid book. I do recommend it if you're starting out with stats or you need to brush up on the basics. Look elsewhere for advanced stats books, and expect to pay outrageous textbook prices for them.
