Review
‘Employee Relations is a comprehensive, up-to-date and very user friendly textbook. It is packed with detail, especially comparative material, and yet succeeds at the same time in being highly readable and accessible.’
Professor John Kelly - London School of Economics
‘Employee Relations covers areas from a critical perspective not always included in ER and HR textbooks and this is to be welcomed. It also contains a wealth of student activities including recent and relevant case studies. This is an invaluable addition to any business school’s courses and resources.’
Dr Len Holden - De Montford University
‘Employee Relations provides an accessible yet acutely critical account of the complex processes involved in employee relations, and is a welcome antidote to the more prescriptive approaches offered by some.’
Professor Ian Beardwell - De Montford University
‘The clarity of the writing, and the integration of features such as excerpts and examples, regular summaries, questions and exercises makes Employee Relations a very useful introduction to the subject.’
Professor Paul Blyton - Cardiff University

This important text addresses, in an accessible and stimulating form, the prominent features and dynamics of employee relations in Britain. The authors' approach is underpinned by analysis and theoretical insights derived not only from the literature in this field, but also from adjoining disciplines such as sociology, law and psychology. Extensive use of Financial Times case material illustrates the relevance of the subject for the student.

Though the concepts in the book are explained well, many sentences are extremely long - upto seven lines long some of them, and the pages are big! This is a big flaw for a book which had a lot of potential. On numerous occasions I could have written the some sentences with half the amount of words used by the authors! This can be problematic for revision.
On a plus note, the book does provide helpful diagrams and articles. Compared to some other books its not dull to read thanks to the use of blue and black ink.
A decent book regardless, but it could have been half the size, and more concise/direct.
