About the author

I’m a lecturer, author, researcher and consultant in English language and academic writing. I also work in the areas of teaching methodology and practice, student learning and course design.
I’ve been teaching and managing higher education for over twenty five years and set up one of the first writing centres in a UK university. I have held the positions of Head of Department, Principal Lecturer in Learning and Teaching, and Chair of the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes. I currently work at the University of Leeds UK.
The main aim of my books is to help students understand the 'how’ and ‘why’ of writing at college and university. These publications will hopefully help readers to further develop their confidence in producing successful pieces of work and expressing their ideas clearly and powerfully as they progress in their field.

Verified PurchaseThe book is an easy, it provides the framework for those new to the expectations of university academia or those returning after a hiatus. Either way it is a great summary with adequate detail to develop your existing skills and explore new ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for undergraduate students
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book has great information for undergraduate students. The author did a great job putting all essential information in a small book. I really enjoyed reading the "reading" section, but I lost it in the " notes making section". Undergraduate students would find a lot of good tips that facilitate their reading process. For graduate and post-graduate students, that might be so simple and wont provide them with detailed tips. All in all, this mini-book worth to be read for undergraduate students.
