Excellent text for clinician overview and public health theoretical knowledge and practice. Covers a wide range of relevant topics from an historical overview to study design to application in genetic causation and genomics. Also includes the ever important table of contents, a useful glossary (oddly, found this missing in several other introductory epidemiology texts) and end of chapter summaries with brief quizzes and answers in the back for self-study.
I would absolutely purchase this one again (or a newer edition) and it has become my "keeper" or reference epidemiology text for both public health and clinical practice. If more detailed works are needed, the chapter reference lists also come in quite handy, often leading to other relevant or more recent research via a quick database search. Accessible, small in size, but ample page count. All in all, a very good value!
Other texts authored by Friis and colleagues purchased for university study continue to be used and much appreciated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epidemiology and Public Health
Verified PurchaseI bought this book for my Epidemiology class while studying for my Masters in Public Health. It was a required course and so was the book a necessity. I love it and therefore bought a copy for a friend. The book was comprehensible. The probing questions at the end of each chapter challenged your understand of what you had read previously. At the end of reading book you must attain a better grasp of everything that Epidemiology entail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Epidemiology Foundation
Verified PurchaseThe text contains a very hearty background of epidemiology and the purpose of utilizing the subject in the real world. It provides plenty of actual examples of happenings and how epidemiologists were able to apply the concepts and perform duties in dire circumstances. The text is easy to follow and keeps the reader engaged. This should be recommended to any person who desires not just the basic foundation of epidemiology, but also a refresher course in knowledge of what epidemiologists do on a day-to-day basis. Great read!
