Ethics: A Very Short Introduction Paperback – 1 May 2003
by
Blackburn
(Author)
There is a newer edition of this item:
Our self-image as moral, well-behaved creatures is dogged by scepticism, relativism, hypocrisy, and nihilism, by the fear that in a Godless world science has unmasked us as creatures fated by our genes to be selfish and tribalistic, or competitive and aggressive. In this ‘sparklingly clear' introduction to ethics Simon Blackburn tackles the major moral questions surrounding birth, death, happiness, desire and freedom, showing us how we should think about the meaning of life, and how we should mistrust the soundbite-sized absolutes that often dominate moral debates.

An Easy Read.

I enjoyed each section, it was impartial at some sections and others 'not-so-much'. It didn't bother me much, but gave me something to think about.
A bit of an extension of the last comments, but it has helped me appreciate ethics more so than other introductions. The further reading is amazing.

I don't find it very useful for the exam
Reviewed in India on 21 November 2017Verified Purchase
I bought this book for UPSC GS Paper 4 preparation. Although, I don't find it very useful (or a must read) for the exam, I assure you that reading it will give you immense pleasure. It took hardly 9-10 hours to read 116 pages book in one go.Language is lucid, simple & attractive. The author has discussed the moral thinkers from Ancient Greek to John Rawl. The author will take you to the journey of philosophy of morality which will surely enlighten you.
