Dr. Irvin B. Tucker brings more than thirty years of experience teaching introductory economics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to this text. Dr. Tucker earned his B.S. in economics at N.C. State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Tucker was a longtime member of the National Council on Economic Education and former Director of the Center for Economic Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Recognized for his ability to relate basic economic principles to global issues and public policy, Dr. Tucker's work has received national recognition throughout his career. He is the recipient of the Meritorious Leavy Award for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education, the Federation of Independent Business Award for Postsecondary Educator of the Year in Entrepreneurship and Economic Education, and the Freedom Foundation's George Washington Medal for Excellence in Economic Education. In addition, he has published numerous professional journal articles on topics including industrial organization, entrepreneurship, and sports economics. Dr. Tucker is also the author of the highly successful SURVEY OF ECONOMICS, a text for the one-term survey of economics course, published by Cengage Learning.

This was a very easy read. One of the few college text books that I have actually looked forward to reading each night and read virtually cover to cover (with the exception of a handful of chapters that my instructor did not assign). The sections are short and easily completed in a quick sit down. But, I found myself sitting and reading for longer periods than usual because I actually enjoyed the material. The first time I took economics (20+ years ago) the text book literally put me to sleep. So did the instructor. (Do not recall any titles or names.) I positively hated the subject.

With this textbook it's so easy to pick up where you left off. It really feels more like you've picked up a business magazine and are reading some little article on quality of life, or business, or Hong Kong, or supply and demand, or wages, or the Fed, or the history of banking, or whatever. Because the book cycles back from time to time on previously discussed topics, if you fall behind in your reading, just jump ahead to where the rest of your class is. You won't be lost. You will still absorb the information somewhere else along the way. Or you can just jump back and quickly pick up the section you need to answer the question, then move on. This author makes it so easy to succeed. And the questions at the end of each chapter are just the right blend of encouraging and challenging. I never thought I could enjoy the subject so much. After reading this book, I would seriously consider getting a master's in economics. Seriously. This guy, Tucker, makes it that easy.

Whoever you are, be thankful your instructor has chosen this text book. I am!
