About the author

I am a full professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where I teach accounting and business courses. I previously was a professor at Michigan State University where I taught for several years. I also taught at the University of Manchester, England. I received my PhD from the University of Wisconsin. I have received many teaching and research grants, and I am a past KPMG Peat Marwick National Fellow.
I have taught a wide range of accounting courses over the years, but more recently have concentrated on the introductory principles course, the financial and managerial accounting courses, along with financial statement analysis and valuation. For many years I have coordinated the financial and managerial accounting principles course; most recently with an online and blended learning delivery system. I apply an active learning style in the classroom in collaboration with team learning activities. I strive to be on the frontier of teaching developments, including the science of learning and the use of technologies to aid student learning.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and have been fortunate to receive several teaching awards for both undergraduate and graduate teaching. I love to write, and have published several books and research articles. My books include Fundamental Accounting Principles, Financial and Managerial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Financial Accounting Fundamentals. My research articles appear in leading academic journals, including The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Contemporary Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and others. I served for several years as the associate editor of Contemporary Accounting Research, and on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review and other leading journals.
My family enjoys numerous sporting activities, especially boating, jet-skiing, and hiking. We also enjoy traveling to new places, particularly warm weather locations in winter months!
