Update #2 - 08/06/2023 - I miss using this book dearly. The beauty of where this book shines is in creating a differential diagnosis by using specific questions and create a case presentation.
----------------
Update #1
This is not a basic book and approaches the high yield advanced style question for history taking. Ofcourse you can't become a master by just reading it once. It takes time for knowledge to consolidate and if you use this resource on a regular basis and compare your notes from the day you started, you will witness how far you have improved not only in your history-taking skills but your overall SOAP note.
Great resource even though the Step 2 CS has been discontinued. Where this book shines is how it explains the basic structures of questions to focused questions that cover the ROS.
I have been using this book for the past year and a half and prepare with this book before I enter the exam room.
I am genuinely surprised by how underrated this book is. I highly recommend this resource.

Update #2: How do I use this book?
1. I would go over the school notes for a particular case.
2. Open this book and go over the particular chapter: This step takes time as questions to a specific complaint rule in or out differentials (Essential to becoming a thinking clinician).
3. Go over First Aid for step 2 CS cases specific scenarios.
4. Create a case-specific history script based on SOAP note format.
hope this helps,Have a great day!

This second edition is bigger size and colored flow char diagrams were added. Easy to read and utilize clinically. This is good for junior residents. This price was not expensive. I liked this.
