An excellent guide to interviewing in the helping professions, ESSENTIALS OF INTENTIONAL INTERVIEWING, 3rd Edition, presents the authors' renowned microskills model, which revolutionized modern understanding of the counseling and therapy process by teaching vital interviewing skills step-by-step. This demystifying process breaks down counseling into manageable micro units and builds a bridge between theoretical understanding, mastery of the skills, and the practice of counseling. The book's multicultural focus reflects the diverse nature of today's classroom-and society. New to this edition are a chapter on crisis counseling, basic information on neuroscience as it relates to interviewing, new video content, and brief summaries of key theories of helping (with additional information and transcripts available online). In addition, MindTap-an online learning platform with a full array of text-specific study tools-is available with the new edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of techniques to help you become a better interviewer

I bought this book for a class thinking "how hard could it be to interview someone?", but after receiving it and skimming through it my interest was piqued. We have done several of the exercises from the book in groups, and they have proven to be very helpful. It not only provides you tips and techniques on how to ask questions, but it also teaches you how to be a better listener.

I thought this book was phenomenal. If you are going into counseling or a related field, the basic skills taught here are indispensable, and the book teachers them in a way that you will actually acquire them, not just read about. I like the book enough that I am actually keeping it for future professional use, even though I purchased it simply for a class.

I was not aware that this book was slightly used. It contained, highlights and marks. For the amount of money spent i should've just got the brand new one where you also have access to an online learning materials, Q & A and other. Overall it a good purchase.
