Excellent resource for the serious dilettante

Am working my way through the standard 1st year medical school curriculum on my own; this book is very well written. It explains the principles of neuroscience in satisfying detail, and contains numerous invaluable illustrations. I am disappointed, however, that the chapter on nerve circuit development as it relates to sex differences caved and depended on Fausto-Sterling’s absurd definition of intersex. One can only hope that by the time the next edition comes out we will have moved back to a place where our medical school textbooks adhere to the scientific method and not ideological whimsy.

This book is easy to read and understand as the author is very concise and clear, while providing accommodating examples. This book was required for a course but I was so intrigued I read the rest of the chapters on my free time.
