Since it was first published in 1998, "Minna no Nihongo" has been a long-selling and classic textbook for both teachers and learners of Japanese alike. Now the series has been reborn in this second edition, with the vocabulary and conversational settings being revised (words that have gone out of usage have been replaced with new expressions frequently in use, and conversational settings have also been updated), and a CD of the dialogues and exercises included with the book. Illustrations for use in reviewing have also been increased. The grammar syllabus is basically the same, however, allowing for a smooth transition for teachers. While this book is not meant as a study aid for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, upon completing the book, the student is roughly at the N5 level of the Test.

- Reviewed in Australia on 10 June 2022Verified PurchaseI am using these textbooks in my Japanese class, it requires you to be able to read hiragana and katakana, I would suggest following the textbook in a class or with a Japanese speaker as opposed to self-study because it could be difficult to follow along. The red textbook comes with a yellow textbook which has the vocabulary translations and grammar explanations etc etc. they both go together although they are sold separately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un manuel de grande qualité !

5.0 out of 5 stars Gut wenn man schon Hiragana lesen kann

5.0 out of 5 stars Good basic book for learning Japanese.
Verified PurchaseGood basic book for learning Japanese. The one has no English innit, which means it is suitable for everyone who wants to learn Japanese for real, but you need to learn Hiragana and Katakana first to understand the grammar in this book.
