Ending was slightly disappointing but I suppose there was no other alternative. It serves as a good reminder of the truth of human nature.

*spoiler alert* this is a great book and shows a lot of loyalty and dedication. When i was in the middle of the book (a bit further) i was hoping for it to have a really nice and happy ending, the ending was a little sad, the near end was very sad and the epilogue was delicate without being to upsetting. this book was a great read and i definitely recommend it!!! :)

Having seen the first Hunger Games movie, I just had to read the books. Now that I have finished this 3rd and final (?) in the series I wish I had read the books first. As most book lovers will know, reading the book is almost always better than seeing the movie, it's like a long, pleasurable journey of discovery to the end. Like unwrapping a gift one small, page sized piece of paper at a time.

Back to the book, the 3rd piece is most definitely the best read yet - Catniss really comes into her own and this book will leave you pondering life, ethics and the image of government for months to come.

It was a decent conclusion to the series. The love triangle possibly could have been better. But it was a good book just the same.

I finished it within an hour!!

4.5 stars. ** spoiler alert ** I've really enjoyed reading The Hunger Games series, and I've enjoyed following Katniss through her fight for survival. Unlike some, I actually enjoyed the books more and more as they went along, and preferred reading about Katniss *outside* of the arena. I did think this book was rather brutal though, and I remember thinking the same thing after I read the first one - that it was weird that it was targeted at a younger audience, yet it was based in such a brutal world, where kids kill kids for entertainment. This third book takes the brutality to a whole new level where people are killed and tortured everywhere. I thought that Finnick should've been given more of a hero's death. He was a secondary character, but was built up to be a 'main' secondary character in this book, yet when he dies he just kind of disappears. I also have to admit that I was 'Team Gale', so you can imagine my disappointment when Katniss didn't go there... I was also hoping that Haymitch would find some kind of peace instead of going back to the bottle (Haymitch was probably my favourite character). But I guess that's life for you - it rarely ends all nice and neat and tied up in pretty bows - especially in a dystopian world like this one! Alas, I did really enjoy reading the series. The world-building was awesome and the characters were great, and I loved seeing a strong heroine at the heart of it all. A great series!
