Purchase options and add-ons
Organized by body system, this fully revised Second Edition places the patient at the center of all drug and drug administration choices. The book bridges the gap between basic science and clinical practice and shows how today's therapeutic agents can address each patient's specific needs. Features include critical thinking scenarios, abundant review questions, color concept maps, drug summary tables, Lifespan Alerts regarding pediatric, childbearing, and geriatric patients, and Web Alerts directing readers to Internet information. A "Focus on Research" feature provides the groundwork for evidence-based decision-making. Appendices cover Canadian drugs, diagnostic imaging agents, enteral nutrition supplements, antidotes, immunizations, and more.

Well organized textbook
Reviewed in the United States on 29 March 2008Verified Purchase
This text is very well organized. Every chapter starts with an overview of the relevant physiological concepts. They present a Prototypical drug for each class and then compare/contrast the other drugs in that class against the prototype. The amount of information contained in the book is overwhelming (due to the nature of the subject), but the easy to understand layout and consistent use of tables and figures make it much easier to digest. The explanations of how the drugs work are clearly written. The only drawback is that it doesn't contain a glossary, so I need to keep a medical dictionary nearby while studying.

Great pharmacology text!

This book has been a great help as I didn't have separate pharm course in my AAS Nursing curriculum. We studied drugs by ourselves instead. The book gives you physiology of body system and pathophysiology of some diseases at the beginning of each chapter. Prototype drugs are described in detail, drugs closely related to prototype and drugs different from prototype are given later. The authors give you little MEMORY CHIPs for each prototype medication, which is great.

This is a great book
Reviewed in the United States on 28 April 2011Verified Purchase
I actually read and enjoyed this book. Finally a text book that was worth the money! I loved the design and page layout; it made it interesting and easier to read than your standard medical text. The authors have a knack for taking difficult concepts, and explaining the material so that you will will be able to understand it. Good charts and graphics throughout the book. Get the study guide too.

Great Read

Okay, maybe I'm a giant nerd, but I really like this book. It's one of the first text books that I actually enjoy reading. It has great explanations, and charts for when you don't want too much info.
