Purchase options and add-ons

With more than three-quarters of a million copies sold since its first publication, The Craft of Research has helped generations of researchers at every level―from first-year undergraduates to advanced graduate students to research reporters in business and government―learn how to conduct effective and meaningful research. Conceived by seasoned researchers and educators Wayne C. Booth, Gregory G. Colomb, and Joseph M. Williams, this fundamental work explains how to find and evaluate sources, anticipate and respond to reader reservations, and integrate these pieces into an argument that stands up to reader critique.

The fourth edition has been thoroughly but respectfully revised by Joseph Bizup and William T. FitzGerald. It retains the original five-part structure, as well as the sound advice of earlier editions, but reflects the way research and writing are taught and practiced today. Its chapters on finding and engaging sources now incorporate recent developments in library and Internet research, emphasizing new techniques made possible by online databases and search engines. Bizup and FitzGerald provide fresh examples and standardized terminology to clarify concepts like
argument, warrant, and problem.

Following the same guiding principle as earlier editions―that the skills of doing and reporting research are not just for elite students but for everyone―this new edition retains the accessible voice and direct approach that have made
The Craft of Research a leader in the field of research reference. With updated examples and information on evaluation and using contemporary sources, this beloved classic is ready for the next generation of researchers.

The book itself: I have not finished reading this book - one third through - and I have learned a lot from this book as a beginner researcher. Not only does it give me practical advice on how to approach and conduct my research, it also gives me a nice way of brain storming my research project. It is a book worth reading multiple times.

I had this book as a Kindle version but bought a copy for my office library, as I referred to it so often. This book provides a really clear formula for making clear arguments. I recommend it for early career researchers and doctoral candidates.

Es un libro clásico que sí bien no nos da la pauta para investigación en temas particulares, sí es muy recomendable para realizar investigación a nivel general.

En esta última edición se presentan buenas actualizaciones que están acorde al tipo de investigación que se realiza hoy en día.

I have been asking myself how to conduct research properly.
    Finally, I found it!!!!!
The book started elaborating from the definition of research and how to connect with readers with useful and practical quick tips that are easy to apply.
For examples, create a Writing Group. This agreed with creating a peer support group in "How to get a PhD" and I formed one in my group.
The book structures from finding a topic, asking questions, forming an argument, constructing warrant and acknowledging different aspect as well as how to respond. It's a great handbook for any researcher!

Authors introduce the concept of research work as the exploration of the unknown in any field of knowledge. It is particularly useful in the field of biological sciences where asking the right questions and knowing the logical workshop is essential to getting the correct design. I recommend this book to students and they find it very helpful in the field of medicine and cognitive neuroscience.
