留学希望なので購入したのですが。。。
まず、海外の大学ではエッセーを書く量が半端ないと聞いています。
現在通っている学校の先生(アメリカ人、日本の大学にて英語でのライティングを長年教えてらっしゃる方です)にも、
メールやビジネスの英語とは違うライティングだと伺っています。
なので、日本語で書かれた書籍を持ってはいますが、そこでカバーできない分を補うためにと思い購入しました。

全編通して英語なので初めは使えるか不安でしたが、
・英文が分かりやすく、理解しやすいです。(というかこのくらいの英文が分からないと留学は早急かな？と思います)
・留学生、留学生を教える教員向けに書かれているので説明が丁寧です。
・サイトでのサポート(問題の答えとか、質問受け付けサービスとか)もあるので安心です。

これは改訂版らしく、以前は薄紫色の書籍のようです。
そちらのほうは見たことがないので何とも言えませんが、基本は同じだと思うのでほかの方のレビューも参考にしてみたらいいかと思います。

最後に、留学希望の方が日本語が一切入っていない参考書も1つくらいは持っておいたほうがいいと思います。
また大学や大学院ではエッセーがおおいと聞くのでこの本は良書だと思います。
