Great skills book
Reviewed in the United States on 30 January 2013Verified Purchase
I am a nursing student, I was very frustrated with the book my program mandated for us. The book we had to have is of low quality and short on descriptions, skills and pictures. Not true with this book, this book has so many pictures, skills and descriptions along with critical thinking exercises, evidence based practice, and patient teaching formats that I no longer found myself lost as to what I was supposed to be learning. If you are a nursing student and you buy this book, you can't go wrong, however if you are a nursing student and you say you hardly used this book, then you didn't take the time to learn how to be a good and effective nurse. Skills are essential, evidence based practice is essential, and critical thinking is essential to being a good, effective, and well rounded nurse. Its better for your patient and you employer that you become the best nurse with the best books available and this is one of those books.

Great book with explanations and pictures

If you are in nursing school or just getting back into a clinical environment after being away for a long time, it is a great teaching tool with pictures and refresher. Reminded me of things I used to do before I go on the floor.

Very good...

This text tends to be more Basic, than Advanced.... The title is Basic to Advanced, perhaps it should be Basic up to Advanced. Having said that, if you are not a nurse or are a student nurse, it is a good skill book and the photos are helpful. A couple of suggestions might be: 1) depict an oxygen flowmeter that has a graduated scale with a ball as an indicator and how to read that instead of the obvious number. (Not all flowmeters are like this, in fact most you will come in contact with are the "ball in the column" variety) 2) Show how to position the plunger in a syringe to get an accurate reading for medication administration. Accuracy counts!
