"The challenge of using a textbook to teach phonological analysis is to strike the right balance between 'learning by reading' and 'learning by doing.' Bruce Hayes meets this challenge for us with this textbook. His writing is clear and accessible, and his thoughtful organizational choices promote a deep understanding of the goals of phonological analysis."
Eric Bakovic, University of California, San Diego
