Essential Cell Biology Hardcover – 25 September 2003
Purchase options and add-ons
Essential Cell Biology, Second Edition contains basic, core knowledge about how cells work. It has a proven track record in providing students with a conceptual and accessible grounding in cell biology. The text and figures have been prepared to be easy-to-follow, accurate, clear and engaging for the introductory student. Each section follows logically from the previous one, telling a story, rather than being a collection of facts. Questions integrated throughout each chapter encourage the reader to pause, think about what they have read, and attempt to apply the new knowledge in ways that test their understanding. Based on user feedback, the Second Edition now offers increased coverage of genetics and more experimental background. It is completely up-to-date.

CD is of no use if you are on 32 bit Windows as the executable files are for 32 bit only. Nevertheless you can view the videos by opening them separately but those have poor resolutions and audio quality, which is understandable given that those were from 1998.
It is the first edition of the book and so lacks some modern developments in the field of Cell Biology but the existing contents are still relevant and important. Won't comment on the quality of the content firstly because I am yet to read it and secondly because it is already a highly acclaimed book.
The books contents are fantastic. Everything that I needed was in here (more to do with the course design though I'd imagine) but if I had this book at A-Level I think I would have been just as impressed. The information was both in-depth, well explained and well organised with all diagrams in easy to find locations.
I honestly wouldn't have found that course as nice to do if it wasn't for this book. This is the first edition but it is pretty much the same as the newest edition.
Can't say much about the CD in the back though from what I could see it was a gallery of images and 3D molecules but this being Biology it wasn't really much use for the actual science but if you are interested in that sort of thing then it would be a nice rest activity between revision times or something?
I recommend this book, I was surprised and pleasantly so. Enjoy.
