5.0 out of 5 stars Needs no introduction - the ultimate teaching tool for abnormal psychology
Verified PurchaseI feel the need to preface this review by pointing out that I suspect any comment I provide, positive or negative, will be unlikely to sway anyone. This textbook has become a mainstay in psychology courses in North America and, I'm happy to learn, in Australia and has represented a required purchase for cash-strapped undergrads for many years. What I can say, though, is that this book is one of my only undergraduate purchases that remained in my library through my graduate years and since, as a registered clinical psychologist. I cannot emphasize emphatically enough the depth and breadth of information within this book, peppered with demonstrative case examples, current research trends, and only the most important core clinical features of each presentation reviewed.
If this book has one flaw, it is in the first and final chapters, which deviate from the discussion of groups of disorders and talks again about the greater practice of psychology. While I can find no specific error within these chapters, they cover material that are better covered by other textbooks covering different material and I'm hard pressed to agree with the fact that they belong in an abnormal psychological curriculum specifically. The book should stick to what it's good at, and what it's good at is reviewing the clinical presentations of different families of psychological disorders.
Barlow and Durand represent titans in the field of clinical psychological research and they certainly bring their wealth of knowledge and experience into the pages of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product and seller!
Verified PurchaseI got exactly what I thought I was buying. This is a really convenient way to have a textbook, because you can just stick it in a three-ring binder and take it with you! Also, you can just take a few chapters if you want, or the whole book! The pages are a little thin, but it's a wonderful educational textbook. As a B.A. in psychology, I would recommend this book to anyone looking to have a great learning experience and a textbook that doesn't cost a fortune.

3.0 out of 5 stars Update to DSM-5 Needed and two-column read stinks on ice.
Verified PurchaseCons: Loose Leaf sucks butt! Forget about reselling the book, half the pages would be ripped out the binder by the time you're done with it. Unfortunately I had to buy this book as a required text. The pages are in a two column format which adds to why the text sucks. Not yet updated to coincide with DSM-5.
Pros: Information is thorough and very informative particularly if you like Abnormal Psychology. The content is interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Abnormal Psychology: An Integrative Approach (with CD-ROM and InfoTrac®)
Verified PurchaseI ordered this book for my son Mike's Abnormal Psych class. It was complete as stated, clean, and had the CD-ROM and Info-Trac (even though he has yet to use it)....and we received it in a timely manner. Man...I have to tell you, we were sweatin' bullets that he would get it in time for his class because my son always tells me at the last minute--not his fault; it's the school. But THIS dealer {Oceanside Media} was FAST and Johnny-on-the-spot in getting it out! ...AND it was solidly wrapped to withstand a small nuke...well, maybe not a nuke, but it arrived safe and secure. I knew I was in good hands after I tried to find any negative reviews. Note I said, "...tried..." (Yes, darlin's, so I'm NEUROTIC. HaH, hah, hah!)
