Medieval Europe introduces today's students to the medieval roots of our own society. In an accessible and engaging narrative, it tells how the peoples of medieval Europe built, understood, and changed their world. Never losing sight of the neighboring civilizations of Byzantium and Islam, it has its feet firmly planted in the medieval West, from whence it gives ample consideration to such subjects as women's lives, Jewish communities, ordinary people, and the experiences of Europeans in the often-neglected centuries of the Later Middle Ages.

Good read, I've read other Medieval Europe books that are disappointingly dry, this one isnt. Very informative.

Assigned for a Medieval Europe class. Captures all the major themes/tensions, and its a good summary of Europe in the Middle Ages. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about Medieval Europe. Naturally there are plenty of pieces which could use more elaboration or more detail, but this book does it all in about 300 pages.

Great book, but the 10th edition is much cheaper and has almost exactly the same content
Reviewed in the United States on 17 July 2013Verified Purchase
After I bought this edition, I learned I could have gotten the 10th edition for a fraction of the cost and it contained the exact same words. The page numbers are slightly different, but the content is the same. If you are taking a medieval history class and they require you have the 11th edition, don't waste your money, the 10th edition is word for word for the vast majority of the book. I compared them side by side and it looks like they just copied and pasted the words for most of it. They may have added a few maps and pictures to the 11th edition, but save your money and get the older one trust me.

The text shows up super small and you can't make it bigger

1) Be careful if you rent this and check the date it's due. It quickly doubles in price and I had to extend my rental to get it for the whole semester
2) It's also formatted badly for kindle. The text shows up super small and you can't make it bigger, but is bearable if you just turn the kindle sideways. It's unavailable on the kindle app/website for Mac, too. All in all, not as good as other textbooks I've rented.
