I ordered this book after getting on a SALT course, but as soon as it arrived I was quite disappointed to see that it was no use to me - I have been teaching English Language for five years, and therefore have studied and taught linguistics at a much higher level than this offers - I would say however, if you literally have just finished your A Levels, this would be a good book for starting university level linguistics as it reviews all parts of basic and intermediate English language grammar structures and explains it well. I had expected it to have more relating to SALT but for me it would only be those sentences linking my own knowledge that I would use within the book.

It is well written - a lot of linguistics / grammar books are like their own code - and would be easy for someone who has never studied it at degree level - and as I said would be useful for a complete beginner in applying A Level English Language study to case studies and understanding the form and function of the language we use.

Unfortunately on the preview I couldn't see the contents table of the book and if I had I wouldn't have purchased it only to return it as soon as it arrived. Again, the book was good for its purpose, but my personal level in linguistics is much higher than I had initially realised.
