About the Author
ROSS MURFIN (Ph.D. University of Virginia) is Professor of English at Southern Methodist University, USA. Author of scholarly studies on Thomas Hardy, D.H.Lawrence, Joseph Conrad, he is series editor of Bedford/St. Martin's Case Studies in Contemporary Criticism and has edited two volumes in the series, Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness (second edition 1996) and Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter (second edition 2005). SUPRYIA M. RAY (J.D. Harvard Law School) is a writer, editor and college teacher based in Baltimore, USA. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Miami, USA, she has assisted Ross Murfin in the research and preparation of more than a dozen volumes in the Case Studies in Contemporary Criticism series.
