Bar on the Hill

Organised by:
Philosophy Society

WHAT: A post-exams BBQ party
WHEN: 3-9pm, Friday 25 November
WHERE: Bar on the Hill, Callaghan, University of Newcastle

The Society is putting on a BBQ to celebrate the end of exams. What a good idea, I hear you say. Indeed. The event promises fun, games and a chance to socialise with your fellow philosophy enthusiasts in a relaxed setting. There will be lots of food on offer (including dessert!) which is free to members. Anyone can join on the night for $2. Drinks can be purchased from the bar at your own expense (unless you’re ridiculously good looking, in which case someone might buy one for you).

We’ll also be having some group discussion in the latter half of the evening as part of our series on Aesthetics. Our theme concerns the point of intersection between art and philosophy. Some philosophers, such as Jean-Paul Sartre, are notable for having communicated their ideas through literature as well as in their more critical works. On the other hand, there are figures who we might think of primarily as artists whose ideas have nonetheless made an important contribution to philosophy. Do you have a favourite philosophical novel or film? Come and tell us about it.

Hope to see you there!
