In his first week as president of the United States, Trump has launched a full scale attack on immigrant workers and refugees. Executive orders ban immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries, lay the framework for the detention and deportation of millions of immigrants, and initiate the building of a heavily-militarized wall on the US-Mexico border.

Trump’s executive orders mark a qualitative shift in the scope and intensity of the state’s attack on immigrants. As is the case for the “war on terror,” violent and repressive police state methods required to implement Trump’s plan will ultimately be unleashed against the entire working class.

Opposition to the Trump administration must not be channeled behind the Democratic Party! The Democrats have responded to the election of Trump with a combination of cowardice and complicity. The road Trump is taking--including the attack on immigrants--was paved by the Obama administration. The protection of immigrants, and the defense of democratic rights can be advanced only through the unification of the working class, of all races, ethnicities, and nationalities, against their common enemy, the capitalist system.

Tuesday evening, the IYSSE & SEP will host a public meeting to discuss the way forward in uniting the entire working class to oppose the Trump administration. 7pm, UIC Lecture Center Building A, Room 3.

This rally and demonstration is sponsored by the International Youth and Students for Social Equality: http://iysse.com
