Reviews

It was a good experience. The content was really interesting but very heavy. There was a lot that needed to be understood and memorised for the final exam which was worth 40%. Weekly quizzes was easy but time consuming as you had to watch a separate online lecture on the research design component. I found the tutes as being a waste of time since we didn't even go through the lecture content. The essay was marked quite harshly too, so overall it was okay. Just need constant self-motivation to get through the semester.

Content: Really interesting but quite heavy Quizzes: Easy Research and Design content, but no quiz questions on other lecture content which can be a bit hard when studying for the final exam Exams: From the above point before, the quizzes were good for revision but only about 10/120 of the Final Exam questions were on Research and Design. They did give us a practice exam but it the questions were copied form the internet so it was hard to study from a Practice exam that didn't have questions written by a university Faculty Assignments: Essay was easy but you need to do plenty of research and prepare beforehand. It was not something I could pull off the night before. Overall: Interesting and good.

Res Des is dry, but end of sem exam was good - only multiple choice questions

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

If you're interested in this area, you will love this subject which offers a nice taste of the many subject areas you will explore should you choose psychology as your major. For those who just want an elective, I would say steer clear - it would be very dry and quite work-heavy if you're not pursuing it out of interest. Overall, they make it easy to understand the content and achieve great marks.

An interesting subject which is not very difficult to pass. Keeping up with the Research design strand was challenging however they were really helpful for the final exam and the quizzes

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2016

The content is very interesting, but it is also quite difficult in terms of remembering everything as it covers a broad range of topics.

PSYC 104 was a general unit that was supposed to be interesting but instead was content heavy and vague. Research design is horribly boring and will be the hour of your week that you dread. Needs to be summed up better than it is currently. Personally, I did not enjoy the tutorials, sometimes they did not correspond to lectures and made the content confusing to follow. The level of depth that is in each topic changes. The topics themselves are interesting though as other reviews have said. Although the subject is not difficult to pass but certainly difficult to get high marks in.

The unit content was really interesting (with the exception of the Research Design strand, the recorded lectures were incredibly monotone and dull- however, really easy marks to made here on the weekly quizzes). Mem was an excellent tutor, made the content really engaging, enjoyable and easy to understand. Lots of content and keeping on top of readings and lectures is a must, but great start to a psych degree as you get an intro to lots of different topics!

This is a taster unit, to introduce you to: History of Psychology, Motivation, Learning, Personality, Disorders, Aggression/Altruism, and Neuropsychology. It has been combined with Research Design run in tandem. 2015 Assessments included: Report (Narcissism), Group Presentation (DSM-5 Disorder), Multiple choice exam (50%). Research Design weekly quizzes. Tips: You will have to study to pass. You will have to pay attention. Not a coasting subject. Not difficult if you stay up to date, but challenging.

Very interesting subject. Covers a broad range of psychological fields of study (mostly) relevant to everyday life in a way that's easy to understand. I found the assignment topics to be quite interesting and relevant. However, the research design strand was dull. As long as you know the lecture content, you should do pretty well.
