Reviews

Lots of content but its an interesting perspective of language. Difficult to follow lectures cause theres like 5, 13 minute videos for one week instead of one large chunk but is useful for revising. Exam is alright, kinda feels like HSC english exam where you just analyse. This subject to be honest just changes words and definitions of things you already know (eg. noun=participant) so if you're easily confused might be harder to grasp. Tutor was really helpful and so cute! shout out to Caroline cause you the bomb!

So hard and confusing!!!!! Don't do it

It’s a subject where you either get it or you don’t unfortunatley. Lectures were not helpful at all. Ensure you do all the readings as well as practice questions. Tutorial was filled with lovely people and the tutor meant well but often caused doubt and uncertainty in students. Sometimes tutor would ramble on about a piece of info for so long you got lost and more confused than before

The unit wasn't all that bad. It really helped when I read a couple of pages ahead of the tutorial/lecture. What I read and what they said clicked well together. But definitely worth making friends and getting help through 'em and obviously asking help from the teachers - they're quite nice (just be polite).

People will hate this because it takes work. You need to study and need to ask questions immediately if you don't understand. It moves quickly and can become confusing, but if you already recognise "fed up of" as poor grammar it's unlikely you'll be overwhelmed. Knowledge value is high for the cost. Very worthwhile unit, especially for aspiring teachers.

WOW, this subject was a complete letdown. It is so dry, uninteresting, and just feels pointless. It is basically the science behind every verb / grammar in a sentence , except...how is that useful?? Convenor Sue also annoyed me because EVERY SINGLE Assessment was turned back DELAYED and I got fed up of having to wait!! I'll give it two stars because I had a tutor who genuinely cared about the class and clearly wanted everyone to do well.

I did this subject as my people subject. I found it very difficult and it was different than I expected. A good challenge and had a great tutor but hard work.

I found this unit difficult to master for a while and then it clicked, with practise. The unit convener is excellent, though there was a male lecturer near the end who managed to lose everyone, but we managed to pull it together for the exams...

The unit was hard but fun once I got the concept!
