Reviews

great subject, that any student can ace successfully as long as he completes all the assignments appropriately and the final exam

If you did legal studies in high school then you will be SO fine. They play it out like this unit is hard, content heavy and difficult but it is FAR from that. If you find the pdfs of the textbook then you will easily pass the final quiz - making it lowkey irrelevant to attend the lectures... The tutorials are helpful for the hypothetical and case study and if you get Zara as a tutor then you have hit the jackpot. It always helps to try and get the assignments correct on the first go, but if not, the markers will provide you with such amazing feedback that it is difficult NOT to pass on the second attempt. After week 8 this unit is literally a bludge and you can chill! Zara was AMAZING and really helped with explaining things. If you are smart enough to make it into law, then do not stress AT ALL about this unit.

Boring if you did Legal Studies in high school but nonetheless worthwhile for an introduction to law, legal concepts and a higher level of legal writing.

I found this course straightforward and informative. The opportunity to resubmit assignments was helpful in developing legal skills. The tutorials were very engaging.

Straightforward foundational course for all law students. Would have liked more focus on developing legal study skills.

This subject is fairly easy to ace. However, the 2 hr seminars are a waste of time. I had Kevin the convenor and he went off topic so much everything just lacked structure. The content is easy but a lot of the time I was left confused because things were so disorganised. I would stick to learning off the textbook and looking at past papers for the final exam.

Very chill unit with lots of support. Chance for you law students to quit being pretentious/thirsty for marks and learn.

Really straightforward unit. It can be a little confusing though if you've never studied legal studies. The tutors are really encouraging though and the fact that you can re-submit assignments is great.

Very simple

Interesting unit that is a non stressful introduction to basic areas in law and essential research skills. Bit confusing with readings as the readings matched up with lectures but tutorials based on completely different content. Otherwise very good. Literally don't need to go to one lecture or tutorial (although very worthwhile to go). Just pass the assignments and you're fine. Overall good lecturers and interesting, engaging tutorials.
