LAW115 was a relatively relaxed unit as it is not graded. Either you get a satisfactory or unsatisfactory. This unit required mostly minimal effort in terms of readings which were not discussed during tutorials. The assignments could be time-consuming however such as the hypothetical task and the case note. I encourage incoming students to consolidate and grasp as best possible all the law skills you learn from writing a case note, foundational concepts and getting your head around the AGLC3 Method. The fact that you could resubmit I think is quite an effective learning method as unlike other subjects, it genuinely means you can make improvements from mistakes which is extremely important for a foundational unit like LAW115.

This semester onwards apparently you are only allowed to resubmit your assessments twice instead of the usual 3 times. This was a bit discouraging, but as long as you take all feedback into account and ask your tutor about any doubts you have you should be fine! It's a good subject to get the basics of law down before you move onto serious subjects like Contracts and Torts.

Really important to follow feedback on assessments. A really good skill developing unit. However it is intense and demanding. As it is pass/fail you cannot expect to make up for one assessment on another. It is vital to keep on top of submissions and resubmissions. If its your first ever semester at uni it is a huge shock- the workload as well as the fact that not everything is spelt out to you. I found it quite overwhelming but it is very achievable to pass because of its pass/fail nature. Overall though it is a unit that develops essential skills and foundations and the tutors are all there to help.

I found the structure of this unit overwhelming and the tutorial discussions never met up with the lecture topics, so I didn't bother with them. Overall there is too much pressure on students to get 100% for each assessment item. I basically skipped lectures and attended tutes where I thought I may need extra help. The assessments are made up of quizzes, group work, a hypothetical and other small tasks. I found that there were too many assignments and too many resubmissions. In my opinion, it would have been sufficient to do 2 quizzes, the hypothetical and the group presentation. Tip: don't let them scare you into thinking you'll fail. start assessments early and be prepared for resubmissions over tiny things. This unit was the second worst unit I've done so far.

This subject is graded on a pass/fail basis and for some tasks there are a certain number of resubmissions you can make if you fail on your first attempt, I would like to note that the pass for each task is 100%. Don't be discouraged if you don't get it right on your first attempt, trust me, my tutor wasn't expecting any of us to get it right the first time round. There's a week on Statutory Interpretation that involves a heavy load in reading, make sure to do it as you'll be dealing with statutory interpretation for the rest of your degree and even after that. There are about 10 assessments for this subject, I found it quite easy-going but for some people it wasn't. Make sure to listen to your tutor and what exactly they want from you in your assessments as what you'll be submitting will be marked by them. I would start the Hypothetical Problem as soon as you get it, it is the most time consuming task in the unit and you are only allowed one more resubmission if you do not fulfil the marking criteria adequately. Overall this subject is more about obtaining the legal skills needed throughout your degree, how to write to a legal and non-legal audience, how to reference properly and research using specific databases, etc. Take into account the feedback you receive from each task especially when you're resubmitting. I enjoyed this subject a lot and my tutor Catherine was very concise and straightforward with anything that I needed help on. It's a great way to begin law.

I've got Catherine as a tutor and She's the best. Very well-designed unit. you'll love it. although it may require you to do a lot of reading (a lot).

This subject is useful because it is not about getting a high mark as it is pass/fail but about understanding preliminary law concepts. Do not get discouraged if it takes a few attempts for some assessments as once you get it right you will not forget!

Excellent subject. It's pass/fail, so if you're just starting uni it's an easier way to get used to everything. Very valuable feedback given on assessments. Some people struggle with the assessments, but provided you work really hard on your first attempt, you shouldn't require more than 1 resubmission. There's one week where the readings get really intense (something like 300+ pages in one week for statutory interpretation) - brace yourself, and do it properly because you'll need that for future law subjects.
