The content for this subject was very interesting; however, there were a lot of assignments that had a small contribution to the final grade yet took a large amount of time to complete. However, even though these assignments were 10-15%, overall, it is important to try as it all counts in the end. It is important to read the required readings that are relevant for the assignment.

Definitely noticed the inconsistent marking across the tutors, having received 60% from one tutor in one assessment, and 93% from another tutor in a different assessment. As there isn't an exam, however, there's no need to keep up to date with readings or notes so rest easy! The content is quite interesting.

I've always been fascinated by crime so I really enjoyed Criminal Justice and Procedure. It could become quite theoretical at times, although the cases are the real reason you would want to do this unit. The assessment involves a mix of group work and a major individual project. Overall a good unit.

Good unit, stay on top of material. Disliked the inconsistent marking standards across tutors.

This is such a time consuming subject. They'll assign group tasks when assessments are due and in general I found LAW109 very stressful. Because there is so much content under crim law the lectures are very brief. Yet, we are expected to write about the topic in great detail. The readings are ridiculously time consuming and the textbook overall is just so hard to follow. I didn't bother doing the readings in the end. You really need to put in a lot of effort to do well.

Assignments were very time consuming regardless even when the weighting was only 10%. Marking criteria was harsh and often confusing and the markers and tutors (Liz) never made properly clear what was expected. They did not give clear instructions causing a lot of confusion and a loss of marks. Elyse is passionate about the topic, however she wasn't very helpful when it came to answering questions and her lecturing style was disagreeable. Liz was my tutor, however I found her teaching style very drab, monotonous and she was ignorant to many aspects of NSW Criminal Law, having practiced in Queensland only. Conversely, Kevin Yee is a fantastic tutor. Had him a few times and he really brought back the passion and interest into the subject. Wish I'd had him as my actual tutor. This unit could have been better had the convenor and tutor been different.

I really enjoyed this unit. The assignments were extremely time-consuming but it was easy to get good marks if you did all the required work. Definitely sparked a love of learning about the criminal justice system!

Very well taught and organised. Wouldn't have been possible without the assistance of Dr Shireen Daft and my tutor Elyse Methven

Interesting unit, lecturer was very organised and generally responded to questions. Wasn't anywhere near as difficult as people made it out to be. They have changed the course structure a lot though.
