Lecturers are not fantastic but once you understand it, it's very rewarding to complete.

I completed the unit in Semester 3 between 2019-2020 but it doesn't have that as an option to select. This unit is possible over third semester but just be aware it is a lot of work and if you want a good grade you'll need to spend pretty much all of your time on this unit and have not much free time. Take good notes from the beginning to take into the final exam and mid semester as they're both open book. However if your notes are not well formulated you won't have time to go through them. The exam was literally days after the final assignment so you have to be prepared for having no time to study for it, and study for it throughout the semester instead. The lectures are presented in an engaging way but quite disorganised as others have pointed out. Take advantage of your free studiosity membership and of youtube and other resources available to you. Also take notes on any and all stata commands you're given from the beginning and the syntax to run them. The unit convenor is nice :) Don't stress about not understanding the content, just watch it a few times until you get it. It will be okay :)

The worst psych unit I've ever done!! The content is ok but the unit convenor is so disorganised, she explains things incorrectly and gets confused and then tells you not to worry about it coz it won't be on the exam. There are mistakes in the slides almost every week and she seems very disinterested in teaching which makes it difficult to get anything out of the lectures. The content is actually not too bad if you remember everything from psyc105, just make sure you use the textbook and other stats websites to help you.. you'll need to do a lot of self teaching which is really sad coz the psych department is meant to be very good.

This unit is made difficult due to the poor organisation and lack of clear information and instruction given by the unit convenor. The content itself is not difficult, but its presentation is pretty terrible.

From 2018 there was a new convener, so don't worry about previous comments about the old convener/lecturer. The new convener (Rachel) is nice, but was a little disorganised, probably because it was her first time teaching it. Hopefully things are smoother in the coming years. There is a lot of content, but if you keep up with everything it's not too bad. The tutorials are essential and my tutor (Hannah) was very good. Make sure you ask about anything you're unsure about in your tutorials, otherwise you'll get lost! Do the optional tests!!!! They take so much pressure off the final exam and it's easy to do well in them if you're prepared. If you do both of them then the final exam is only worth 40% (rather than 60%), so the assignment weightings are spread out a lot more.

Although i agree that the content is daunting and the lecturer can be quite condescending, this unit really helped me during PSY348. Take notes of everything the lecturer says - although he might not make much sense now, everything i wrote down (i wrote down everything verbatim) has helped me so much with PSY348 and makes much more sense to me now. Don't throw away your notes if you're serious about psych!

Lecturer is quite condescending and the material is hard to follow and convoluted.

Awesome subject, lecturer is very interesting and covers a wide range of topics. Definitely requires a lot of study! Best of luck for all the Psych students taking this subject :)

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017

Personally, I enjoyed this subject, but as others have said it is very tough! Hang in there, and if you get lost, email your tutor ASAP

Not as bad as you may think! I struggled with trying to wrap my head around a lot of the content and did find it boring, but they give you so much opportunity to do well. The weekly quizzes are marked purely on the effort you put in - not right or wrong. The final exam is multiple choice AND open book. There are two optional tests that will contribute to your final mark only if you do well. The lecturer was repetitive, which helped me a lot, and he took the lectures slow, which gave me time to process as there was a lot of info. He did have a condescending tone of voice, but I believe he answered all questions in the lectures and genuinely wanted to help us understand. Finally, I found the forums on the iLearn page were a great asset so check them out regularly and make sure you have notes to take into the tests/exam.
