Reviews

Honestly such a chill subject. The assessments are reflective based and so any opinion is pretty valid. No exam. Low key didn't attend the tutorials and lectures and still got a reasonable mark. The readings are really interesting.

The unit was good mostly, though some of the lecturers (different most weeks) did not communicate the overall message of the unit (how heroes were seen and what constituted a hero over time). The definition of a Greek hero was also pretty open. Towards the end of the unit the lecturer is good but hard to understand and luckily my tutor was very understanding and cleared things up for us. For the assignments (2018) we had to do two tutorial papers of weeks of our choice, one from Weeks 2-6 and one from Weeks 7-13. The essay required us to compare two heroes/heroines within the historical context of their time. I strongly suggest you choose the same heroes for your tutorial paper as for the essay as it means overall less work - a lot of research is required for those unfamiliar with history subjects. No weekly quizzes and no exam. Interesting but could be better. No textbook but a reader is needed and can be purchased from Co-Op at Macquarie, and the readings are usually 30-40 pages long.

This subject was fairly easy to get good marks in as long as you used the greek terms that the tutors talked about (every lesson they say them, not hard to miss). No final exam which is good - but an essay worth 50%. If you enjoy history - this may be a subject to consider, but the lectures were very dull.

The first half of the unit is great! However, the second half is terrible because the heroes aren't as well known and the lecturer is difficult to understand. However, there is no exam (2016) and the assignments are easy.

More literature based than history, but the content is simple to understand, and the tute papers only 1000 words each. Only flaw was the final essay, the questions for which asked for a comparison of two heroic figures. In both questions you could choose from, one of the figures had the barest minimum of information published about them making the 2000 words hard to reach.

Overall painful subject! Lectures were dry and were not interesting at all. Felt like an English module for me.

Interesting subject except from about week 8 where if doing it externally the new lecturer is impossible to understand on the recordings. Exam isn't too bad either. Assessment load is okay

The subject seems awesome however one of the lectures is extremely hard to understand and the content is rather boring.
