For only $55, less than 1/3 of the cost of a faculty ball, what more can you ask for??
More than just your ordinary faculty ball and not quite your run of the mill charity ball...it's another Night at the Spiegel!
Running off the back of last year’s success, La Trobe Social Justice League; a banding of Oxfam La Trobe, Amnesty International La Trobe, Equality, Sustainability & Peace (ESP), The La Trobe University Greens, She’s the First La Trobe and Seven Women; presents the social event of the University Calendar not to be missed…this year bigger and better than the last!
We know what you must be thinking...
Well, if it's not a faculty ball or your standard charity ball...what is it exactly?
We are bringing you the best of both worlds! A night full of glamour and a chance to wine and dine sustainably, whilst at the same time supporting the incredible work of five, that’s right five different not-for-profit organisations.
The night will include:
- Delicious and sustainable food provided by Hudson’s Famous Food and Functions
- Live music from up-and-coming bands, DJs and artists courtesy of Max Bishop Events
- A photobooth, silent auction
- Aaaaand half price drinks and other drinks specials running all night (Call the troops, yes that means cheap, cheap bevs)
… All this in addition to that fuzzy feeling in your stomach you will most definitely be feeling knowing that you are doing good and making a difference, whilst having a fabulous Friday night out.
Here’s how it will work:
Each club has chosen one NGO they would like to raise funds and awareness for:
Oxfam LTU: Oxfam’s (Oxfam) Syria Campaign
ESP & The Greens: Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance (WAR)
She's the First: Their organisation’s mission to provide scholarships for girls in low income countries with the goal of creating the first generation of graduates
Seven Women: Their organisation’s mission to empower marginalised women in Nepal through skill, training and employment.
Each of these NGOs is then represented via a box on the night and during the night each guest will receive a token to place inside the box. Effectively, each token represents a portion of the profits, thus you have the opportunity to choose where exactly the profits from your ticket will be going, rather than all the funds going to directly the one place. Each charity will be receiving a base level from the profits, to keep it fair - and the rest is up to you.
The point of this exercise? Each week leading up to the event one club will be posting about their chosen charity (stay tuned), so between now and then you will have the chance to educate yourselves on these charities and the one that speaks to you the most. Then, on the night, you make your choice about where you would like your funds to go. Sound effective? We certainly hope so!
So come along to The Melba Spiegeltent, doll up in your finery and experience the ambiance of one of Melbourne's most breathtaking and iconic venues.
It's a win-win really...
For only $55, less than 1/3 of the cost of a faculty ball, what more can you ask for?? (Don't worry, we know what more...that's why we have a few surprises in store, so keep posted)
