ABOUT THE SHOW
A theatrical collaboration between La Trobe Student Theatre and Film (Australia) and Teatre Lakon and Mainteatre (Indonesia). To create this exciting and ambitious production seven students from La Trobe spent five weeks in Bandung working with seven students from Bandung’s Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. They devised, rehearsed and performed this show in Bandung and Bali.

The ancient Sundanese tale of Jamarun was used as a starting place and main reference point. In this tale, a poor man is executed. Before he dies he tells the town that his innocent corpse will take on a beautiful fragrance. His words turn into a curse when the birds and butterflies that are drawn to the sweet smell blot out the sun and turn day into a perpetual night.

Two very different groups of students encounter this story and the issues that it raises.

Performed as part of La Trobe Student Theatre and Film's 2017 Moat Festival. The show will also be performed at La Mama Courthouse as part of AsiaTOPA, full event details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1880228688873020/
