Written an article and don’t know where to send it? Have a great article and don’t know how to pitch it? You’re not alone.
Finding perspective media outlets to pitch to can be difficult. Then once you have the idea, pitching it to the editor can be daunting. Not knowing where to send your work, or how to sell you article in a few short lines is an issue that many media students face.
So what are editors looking for? What makes a great pitch and where can you start getting work published? To help you out, JMAC is inviting you to hear from four journalism students all currently working and writing at various media outlets in Melbourne.
Our panellists are:
Ben Cuzzupe is a third year journalism student who edits for Eurosport and Upstart. He writes regularly for the Guardian Australia and Greenfield Post.
Erin Leeder is a recent La Trobe graduate who now works as Digital Producer for The New Daily. She has written for the Culture Trip and Upstart.
Jarni Blakkarly has worked with Aljazeera English, Reuters, ABC and Overland, amongst others. He is currently finishing his Bachelor of Journalism at RMIT.
David Allegretti writes regularly for Vice and Noisey Magazine. His work has appeared in Upstart, Beat Magazine and Tone Deaf. He is currently finishing his Bachelor of Journalism at La Trobe.
Please join our panellists and us on the Wednesday afternoon. Room location yet to be announced.
