About the author

Abraham M. Nussbaum, MD, is the Chief Education Officer at Denver Health, an integrated safety-net system, where he cares for persons hospitalized with mental health crises. At the University of Colorado School of Medicine, he teaches the basic sciences underlying psychiatry to first-year medical students and is a Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Dean of GME.
His professional interests include improving care for persons with chronic mental illness, medical education, and medical humanities. (My personal interest are listening to 60's soul, assembling bicycles, imagining the ideal NBA team, and writing badly in the third person.) He lives in Denver, Colorado.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Useful Resource for Forensic Examinations and Detection of Malingering
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe text is quite comprehensive given the size of the book. The book is small and light enough to carry around, as an indispensable reference at locations such as jails, and prisons where internet is either restricted or unavailable. The content structure is well planned and user friendly. Some of the content include information on diagnostic techniques and approaches, a very valuable chapter on 30-Minute Diagnostic Interview, Key Changes to DSM-5-TR, pertinent diagnostic criteria, a creative chapter titled „Six Questions to a Differential Diagnosis,“ MSE, “Other Conditions That May Be A Focus Of Clinical Attention,” assessment measures, and information on dimensional diagnosis of personality disorders. It is a pocket guide, therefore, it would be unfair to expect inclusion of all the ICD—10 CM codes and other DSM information. It is also a good reference for evaluation of malingering as the interview questions have not been formulated by changing sentence structure of diagnostic criteria. It will help to detect malingering when the person evaluated comes to the interview having memorized the diagnostic criteria of the diagnosis he or she hopes to receive. Furthermore, information from DSM-5 and related books are generally accepted at the courts when cited during expert testimonies. The Guide to the DSM-TR Diagnostic Exam is a concise yet comprehensive resource for both experienced psychiatrists and trainees in psychiatry for development of effective diagnostic skills. It provides questions for the criteria which have been most recently added or changed.
Mine did not have the sticker for the QR code either. Lack of a sticker doesn’t affect the quality of the text, however, it is a pity as pirate publications lead to loss of income for APA which invests significant time and monies to develop DSM and related resources.
