Anonymous Lawyer Paperback – 1 March 2007
Purchase options and add-ons
He's a hiring partner at one of the world's largest law firms. Brilliant yet ruthless, he has little patience for associates who leave the office before midnight or steal candy from the bowl on his secretary's desk. He hates holidays and paralegals. And he's just started a web-blog to tell the world about what life is really like at the top of his profession.
Meet Anonymous Lawyer - corner office, granite desk, and a billable rate of $675 an hour. The summer is about to start, and he's got a new crop of law school interns who will soon sign away their lives for a six-figure salary at the firm. But he's also got a few problems that require his attention. There's The Jerk, his bitter rival at the firm, who is determined to do whatever it takes to beat him out for the chairman's job. There's Anonymous Wife, who is spending his money as fast as he can make it. And there's that secret blog he's writing, which is a perverse bit of fun until he gets an e-mail from someone inside the firm who knows he's its author.
Written in the form of a blog, Anonymous Lawyer is a fiendishly clever and hilarious debut that rips away the bland fa ade of corporate law and offers a telling glimpse inside a frightening world.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WAS AN ASSOCIATE AND A SUMMER ASSOCIATE AT A LARGE LAW FIRM AND -- I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
Verified PurchaseI can't tell you how much I loved this book!! I wanted to laugh out loud several times a page, and that is unusual for me. I don't know if non-lawyers would love it as much as I did - or even lawyers that never did the "big firm" thing. But I have to tell you that almost everything said in here is absolutely true (although perhaps a bit exaggerated at times - but not by much). From the rich partners who will go out of their way to eat free cookies on someone's birthday to the completely-false image of what associate life will be like that is deliberately presented to the summer associates. This book is funny, captivating and right-on-target!!!
I'll never forget when I was a summer associate at a large law firm and I was leaving the office at 9pm on one of the few nights that there were no summer associate "firm events" going on. One of the big partners said to me, "What are you doing working so late? Go home!" in a jovial, avuncular manner. When I became a first-year associate, however, that same partner almost fired me when he saw me sneaking out of the office one night about 8:30 pm.
I wonder what name I was privately called by partners when I was an associate/summer associate? Hmmm...definitely not Dresses Like A Slut, nor the Frumpy Litigator. Perhaps something in between.... :)
Jeremy Blachman, you are my hero!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read
Verified PurchaseThis book really taps into that dark sense of humour that always appeals to me. Kill Your Friends, American Psycho, they all have it. Although the main character is not as extreme as them, his love of toxic office politics is more relatable. Really worth a try if you like.
